The second season of David Lynch’s classic ’90s TV mystery “Twin Peaks” finally comes to DVD
Many years before the likes of "Lost" and "FlashForward" became TV sensations, David Lynch's "Twin Peaks" was providing viewers with weekly doses of small-screen mystery. The show first aired in 1990 and quickly became the highest rated programme in America, with audiences glued to their sets in anticipation of discovering the identity of Laura Palmer's killer. The show ran for two seasons, inspired a terrifying spin-off movie and went on to become one of the most influential TV programmes ever made.
While a DVD box set of season one was released 2002, the second season of "Twin Peaks" has been unavailable on DVD until now. In March, Universal Playback will release all 29 episodes in one box set, alongside the deluxe 'Gold Box', featuring every single episode plus a host of bonus material.
The show of course focuses on the weird and wonderful residents of the eponymous town, who are still recovering from the murder of high school sweetheart Laura Palmer. Season two begins with Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) continuing his investigations, and things gets increasingly surreal as he learns of the existence of two ghostly lodges deep in the woods. Returning to the cast are such iconic characters as one-armed Dr Jacoby, sexy Audrey Horne, the Log Lady and sinister Leland Palmer.
True fans of the show will want to get their hands on the Gold Box. As well as all 29 episodes, it includes the extended version of the pilot episode, previously only available on VHS back in the 1990s, plus deleted scenes and a feature-length retrospective documentary.
