From "Swan Lake" and "A Christmas Carol" to last year's popular "Three Musketeers", over the past few years Barbie™ has starred in a series of popular animated historical adventures. With "Barbie™ In A Mermaid Tale", the world's most popular doll returns to feature in a new story set in the modern day.
The story follows Merliah™, a surfing champion from Malibu who one day discovers a surprising secret – she's a mermaid! With her new dolphin friend Zuma, Merliah™ sets off on an undersea adventure to rescue her mother, the queen of Oceana.
As with previous Barbie™ releases, “Barbie™ In A Mermaid Tale” is an enchanting mix of music, comedy, superb animation and inspiring messages about friendship, independence and teamwork. The DVD comes packed with bonus material. There's some hilarious outtakes from the film, and the music video for the song "Queen Of The Waves", plus featurette called "I Could Be A Surfer", focusing on Stephanie Gilmore, the world's No.1 female surfer.
Barbie™ is one of the most recognisable toy franchises in the world, and with the release date set a couple of weeks before the Easter holidays, "Barbie™ In A Mermaid Tale" is set to follow the huge success of its predecessors.
Marketing
Universal and Mattel are supporting “Barbie™ In A Mermaid Tale” with pre-awareness sponsorship targeting girls across Boomerang, Cartoon Network and Cartoonito channels. There will also be sponsorship of “This Morning” and TV advertising cross-promoting both the DVD and toy launch. In addition there will be coordinated press plans to ensure awareness of the “Mermaid” brand reaches all target audiences.
