Longtime home entertainment industry PR Richard Robson has died aged 70 after suffering from cancer.
After a career in journalism including a five-year spell at Music Week in the late 60s and early 70s, Robson moved into marketing and PR, establishing Richard Robson Associates in the early 80s beginning a working relationship with Entertainment in Video that lasted for more than 20 years
He then set up Media Communications Ltd in 1994, continuing to represent EiV and its home entertainment release of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
Other clients included Universal Pictures Video, Universal Playback, Universal Music, Warner Vision, Warner Music, Fremantle Home Entertainment, Abbey Home Media, FilmFour, Contender Entertainment Group and Momentum Pictures.
Former EiV sales and marketing head Paul Evenden said, “He was a thoroughly decent guy, a really nice bloke who was there at the beginning of the home video business. He always enjoyed working with the media but was, if anything, too soft when it came to his own business. I shall miss him.”
His funeral will take place at 1pm on April 27 at Breakspear Crematorium, Breakspear Road, Ruislip, HA4 7SJ. No flowers but donations to St Luke’s Hospice ℅ TA Element & Son Ltd, 21 Bridge Street, Pinner, Middlesex HA5 3HR.
