It is with regret that we announce that Cue Entertainment has ceased publication after more than 16 years in business.
That the home entertainment sector has undergone extraordinary structural change in the past couple of years is a remarkably obvious thing to say but it is nonetheless true. The rise of subscription VOD services has meant the traditional business, as it was once understood to be (the sale or rental of films and TV shows) is declining so rapidly that the market is not in a position to sustain a trade magazine of Cue’s type anymore.
Whether the filmed entertainment collecting bug is quite extinguished remains to be seen but the current decline has hit many ancillary businesses in the sector and it is now Cue Entertainment’s turn to admit defeat and shut up shop. It’s been both fun and frustrating, cheering and chastening, as well as profitable and latterly not so. We would like to say thanks to all those who supported us, yah boo to those who didn’t and good luck to those who remain fighting the good fight. In the words of the late, great Douglas Adams: “So long and thanks for all the fish.”
